If you enjoy the view from one of the
many view points at Pugu Hills it makes a
difference the way the trees look like if you know
something of what has been going on under them.
The trees you see are belonging to
Pugu Village. There is Pugu Kajiungeni, Pugu
Stesieni (Station) Kigogo Fresh.
The cattle market where most of the
Sukuma herds (Mwanza)are sold is worth a visit.
The Pugu Secondary School at the horizon where the
German Missionaries where attacked during the Arab
uprising at the end of the 19th century, against
the European colonialist. The graves of the
victims are still present.
On the hill behind the Coconut
Plantation Von Lettow the German Commander who had
to surrender to the Allied troops only after being
instructed by Kaiser "Wilhelm" had his
camp there before embarking for his 5 years of cat
and mouse with the allied troops. Can you imagine
the small white wig wam like tents under the trees
Or what to think of the mysterious trail in the
Pugu Forest of which you use a small section when closing
in on the cave upstream of the water reservoir.
Did the teachers of Minaki School spend their
Sundays early 20th century, strolling around the
Forest looking for lions ? (We are digging for
more stories)
